Sept 7, Bengaluru, Karnataka: Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) lost contact with Vikram Lander in the much anticipated lunar exploration of Chandrayaan-2. Attempts to restore contact were unsuccessful.
The first landing attempt on the lunar surface could not take place as the Lander Vikram missed the primary landing site. Last night it went for the alternative landing site. But moments before touchdown all contacts were lost. Attempts to establish contact by the scientists at ISRO failed.
The mission was developed by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO). Chandrayaan-2 mission is highly complicated and a technological marvel of India. It comprised an Orbiter, Lander (Vikram) and Rover to explore the Moon.
During the press briefing ISRO officials said that though it was unfortunate to lost contact seconds before touchdown, the mishap will not hamper future missions. ISRO claims that the Lander must have landed successfully on the lunar surface and now they will try to ascertain why contact was lost at the moment touchdown.
