The district level Science exhibition under the theme ‘Science and Technology for Sustainable Development’ was held in Kiphire, Mon and Mokokchung on Tuesday.

In Kiphire, the exhibition was organised by the District Education office, Kiphire, held at EBRC Hall. District Education Officer (DEO), Kiphire, Deenabandhu Panda, stated that the main objective of the exhibition is to inculcate innovative ideas of the students and utilise them in our day to day activities, a report stated. He further informed that the winner of the district level will be participating in the state level Science exhibition in Kohima which will be held on November 7.

He further thanked all the teachers from different schools for their efforts and also in helping out the students in their presentation and appealed to them to continuously work in shaping the career of the students.

Altogether, 19 students participated in the exhibition which was categorized in two criteria, single and double presentation. In single presentation, first position was bagged by Tinutemsula from Loyola Higher Secondary School, while the second position was bagged by Manish Kumar from Trinity High School. In double presentation, the first position was bagged by Cia Bose and Chumtila A. Sangtam from Saramati View Modern School while the second position went to Chichem and Akhumse from Loyola Higher Secondary School. The panel of judges were S.R Singh and Binash Joseph, the report added.

In Mon, the exhibition was held at council hall where ADC Mon, Hiazu Meru, was the special guest. Highlighting that our lives have become easy because of science and technology, Meru lamented that in the process of development, mankind has exploited the natural resources. If we go on exploiting the natural resources, there will be ill effects on health, environment and our existence too, he stated. He also spoke on the Sustainable Development Goals of United Nations which was launched in 2015 where he elaborated on the areas on property eradication, food security, energy and health.

Encouraging the young students, Meru further stated that such science exhibitions will motivate the students to understand and experience scientific values. He appreciated the teachers and students for coming with the new model and presentations, the report added.

In the individual category, Thanglong of St. John’s Higher Secondary School emerged as the winner, Priyance Shandilya of Christ King School and Yingmei M Konyak of St. Mary’s High School got second and third prize respectively.

In the group Category, Nginpong A Konyak and Ponpha of St. John’s Higher Secondary School got first prize. Mehu and Jahwang of GHSS Mon town-D got second prize while Yeilih Konyak and Angtok Konyak of Edith Douglas School and Alih P Konyak and Keyeang Kheang of St. Joseph’s School stood third prize respectively.

Altogether, nine schools competed in the exhibition where T. Watlong Yanlem, GT, GHSS Mon, Bendangrenla, GT, GHSS Mon-D and Dipayan Marak, PGT, St. John’s Higher Secondary School were the judges.

In Mokokchung, the science exhibition was held at EBRC Hall where three schools- Queen Mary Higher Secondary School (QMHSS), Senayangba Higher Secondary School (SHSS) and Mayangnokcha Government Higher Secondary School (MGHSS) participated.

DEO Mokokchung, Sademmongla, delivered the welcome address while a special song was presented by GHS Mokokchung village. Vote of thanks was proposed by Imkongwapang, ADC, DMA, Samagra Shiksha, Mokokchung. The programme was chaired by project assistant, DMA, Samagra Shiksha, Mokokchung, Temjensangla, a report added.

Education and Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan at the OCPM Girls Higher Secondary School here on Friday.

Inaugurating the exhibition, Collector L. Subramanian said that the best way to improve scientific temper among students was to involve them in study of natural sciences.

Students from around 85 government schools in Madurai, mostly from Class 9 to Class 12, participated in the exhibition.

Ten best experiments selected from the exhibition were awarded a price of Rs.1000. Experiments highlighting issues like air pollution, flood management and dengue awareness and also innovative models like device for climbing lamp post were exhibited.

J. Angelo Irudayasamy, Chief Educational Officer, K. Selvakumar, Joint Director of Education (Kallar Reclamation), and S. Nadarajan, Educational Officer (in-charge) of Madurai Corporation, also addressed the students.
