PUNE: The forest department on Saturday arrested three people in connection with the death of peacocks in Khedkar Vasti near Ranjangaon in Shirur taluka.
Those arrested include a poultry farm owner in the area and his two workers. The suspects were identified as Abhijeet Kalamkar, Bhaskar Tukaram Bangar and Rajaram Sandbhor.
Since August, 32 peacocks have been found dead around Kalamkars farm in Khedkar Vasti.
After regional forensic science laboratory reports confirmed that the birds had died because of insecticides scattered around Kalamkars poultry farm, forest officers swung into action and arrested the three.
The forest departments investigation team also seized a bottle of pesticides from the spot.
Khedkar Vasti is close to Morachi Chincholi, a village known for peacock tourism.
