GUWAHATI: The 12-day Guwahati Book Fair at the Assam Engineering Institute Playground here, which is patronized by the state government, picked up some momentum on Sunday, the third day of the event. Youths and students were seen thronging the book extravaganza with friends and families in a holiday atmosphere.
The annual event has been affected by the decision by the All Assam Publishers and Book Sellers Association to boycott the fair. Considering the problems this has brought about, the state government has decided to pay Rs 2 lakh each to 305 colleges for the purpose of buying books from the fair. This move is being envisioned to not only enrich college libraries, but also encourage publishers who have turned up at the fair.
