Newton's first law of motion - sometimes referred to as the law of inertia. Newton's first law of motionis often stated as. An object at rest stays at rest and an object in motion stays in motionwith the same speed and in the same direction unless acted upon by an unbalanced force.

Newton's first law of motion states that a body in motion shall remain in motion and a body in rest shall remain in rest as long as an external force is not applied on the body. This tendency of the body to remain in rest or motion respectively is called the body's inertia, and this law is called Newton's law of inertia.
