There is a lone pair of electrons that is sterically unhindered and more tendency to donate electron more is its ability to form complex . The test for the presence of the chloride ion involves silver nitrate reacting with the chloride ion to form a white precipitate which is soluble in ammonia solution . Here ammonia acts a good complexing agent . There a several other reactions involving copper in which ammonia acts a complexing agent .

NH3 is good complexing agent. 1. By definition from Lewis, a base is an electron pair donor.Due to smaller atomic size the density of lone pair electrons on N in NH3is larger than that of P in PH3. ... 4.Ammonia is a good complexing agent because it is a good lewis base.
