NH_{4} Cl can act as both an acid and a base depending on the context.

NH_{4} Cl is a salt that is formed by the reaction of ammonium hydroxide (a weak base) and hydrochloric acid (a strong acid).

When NH_{4} Cl is dissolved in water, it dissociates into its constituent ions: NH_{4} + and Cl-.

NH_{4} + is the ammonium cation, which is acidic in nature. This is because it can donate a proton (H+) to a base to form NH_{3} (ammonia) and H+ ions. Therefore, NH_{4} + is considered an acid radical.

On the other hand, Cl- is the chloride anion, which is a basic radical. This is because it can accept a proton (H+) from an acid to form HCl (hydrochloric acid) and Cl- ions.

Overall, NH_{4} Cl can act as both an acid and a base depending on the context.
