जब पहली बार भारत को अपना संविधान मिला तब से भारत हर साल 26 जनवरी 1950 से गणतंत्र दिवस का उत्सव मना रहा है भारतीय इतिहास में गणतंत्र दिवस का बहुत महत्व है क्योंकि ये हमें भारतीय स्वतंत्रता से जुड़े हर-एक संघर्ष के बारे में बताता है। भारत की पूरी आजादी (पूर्णं स्वराज) की प्राप्ति के लिये लाहौर में रावी नदी के किनारे 1930 में इसी दिन भारत की आजादी के लिये लड़ने वाले लोगों ने प्रतिज्ञा की थी। जो 15 अगस्त 1947 को साकार हुआ।


26 जनवरी 1950 को, हमारा देश भारत संप्रभु, धर्मनिरपेक्ष, समाजवादी, और लोकतांत्रिक, गणराज्य के रुप में घोषित हुआ अर्थात भारत पर खुद का राज था उस पर कोई बाहरी शक्ति शासन नहीं करेगी। इस घोषणा के साथ ही दिल्ली के राजपथ पर भारत के राष्ट्रपति के द्वारा झंडा फहराया गया साथ ही परेड तथा राष्ट्रगान से पूरे भारत में जश्न का माहौल शुरु हो गया।

All this display is fittingly preceded by the flag hoisting ceremony which is the most important part. It is accompanied by the singing of National Anthem.

On this day, bravery awards are also given to children and citizens of the nation to motivate people and bring them a sense of nationalism and pride to the nation.
