Nikhita is in a mood to eat pizza. She calls the pizzeria which offers home delivery. She is told that a 25cm pizza will cost her ₹200. But there is a special price offer for the larger 35cm pizza. That will cost her only ₹350. Nikita is always sceptical about such discount offers. Can you help her find if she is really getting a good deal on the larger pizza ?

Answer:

If she will order the 35 cm large pizza for rs 350 , it will cost high than 25 cm large pizza. As the cost of 25 cm pizza is 8 rupee per cm but cost of 35 cm pizza is 10 per cm , so she should deney the offer .

Pizzas are usually circular in shape . Their surface areas are thus proportional to the square of their diameters.

The smaller pizza therefore will have a surface area proportional to 24² and that of the larger one will be proportional to 35²

The prices are proportional to the surface area

Therefore , if the smaller one costs ₹200 , then the larger one should cost ( 35² / 25² ) × 200

This works out to 1.96 × 200 or 392

So if there is no special offer , the larger pizza should cost ₹392

However , it is being offered at ₹350

So there is a significant discount of ₹42 or 12%

Nikita should take advantage of this deal
