Given:

Height of Nishant =6 feet

Height of the shadow cast by Nishant=5 feet

Height of the shadow cast by the pole=30 feet

To find: the height of the pole.

Solution:

Draw the required figure.

Know that, the height of nishant is the side DE and his shadow is AE respectively. The height of the pole is the side BC and its shadow is the side AC respectively. Both the Nishant and the pole are vertically upward from the ground.

Observe the figure that, ∆ADE and ∆ABC appear as two similar triangles. Therefore by using the property of corresponding sides of similar triangles it can be said that the corresponding sides of both the triangles are in proportion.

Therefore,

Find the height of the pole.

\[\begin{array}{l} \Rightarrow \frac{{DE}}{{AE}} = \frac{{BC}}{{AC}}\\ \Rightarrow \frac{6}{5} = \frac{h}{{30}}\\ \Rightarrow h = \frac{{6 \times 30}}{5}\\ \Rightarrow h = 36\end{array}\]

Hence, the height of the pole is 36 feet.
