  \large\mathsf \red {Required \:  \: answer \:  \:  is \: (7.2 \: km)}

Solution :-

Let the distance between school & village = X km

Time taken to travel from village to school at a speed of 4 km/h =  \frac{x}{4 } \: h

Time taken to travel from school to village at a speed of 6 km/h = \frac{x}{6} \: h

Given :-

Total time taken = 3 hrs

Hence,

 \mathbb{ \frac{x}{4}  +  \frac{x}{6}  = 3 }   \\  \\

Now take LCM of 6 & 4

 \mathbb{ \frac{3x + 2x}{12}  = 3} \\  \\

 \mathsf{3x + 2x = 36} \\  \\

 \mathsf{5x = 36} \\  \\

 \mathsf{ x = \frac{36}{5} =  7.2 \: km}

Hence, the distance between school & village = 7.2 km
