How far is his school from his village?

Solution :-

Let the distance between school & village = X km

Time taken to travel from village to school at a speed of 4 km/h = $\frac{x}{4 } \: h$

Time taken to travel from school to village at a speed of 6 km/h = $\frac{x}{6} \: h$

Given :-

Total time taken = 3 hrs

Hence,

$\mathbb{ \frac{x}{4} + \frac{x}{6} = 3 }$

Now take LCM of 6 & 4

$\mathbb{ \frac{3x + 2x}{12} = 3}$

$\mathsf{3x + 2x = 36}$

$\mathsf{5x = 36}$

$\mathsf{ x = \frac{36}{5} = 7.2 \: km}$

Hence, the distance between school & village = 7.2 km
