The amount of nitrogen gas in the atmospheric air is the highest in amount but the amount of elemental nitrogen in the soil is very less.

The major source of elemental nitrogen in the soil is the organic microbes which transform complex nitrogenous compounds into simple elemental nitrogen for the soil.

These microbes are simply known as the nitrosomonas microbes.
