On the basis of chemistry we no longer have nitric oxide but instead, we have nitrogen oxide and I hope that this is what you meant.
So to start with, nitrogen oxide reacts with oxygen gas to form nitrogen dioxide but the universally accepted name is Nitrogen (IV) oxide.
This is the same way carbon (II) oxide reacts with oxygen gas to form carbon (IV) oxide.
