Nitrogen has a half filled orbital. ... On the other hand, since Oxygen is already unstable relative to Nitrogen, by losing one electron it attains a stable half filled orbital. So oxygen undergoes ionisation at a relatively lower energy. This is why nitrogen has a higher ionisation energy than oxygen

Ionisation energy is the energy required to make the cation of the atom or eject an electron from its valence shell.

Comparatively, the electronegativity of nitrogen is lower than Oxygen. Thus nitrogen would require liye energy for ejection of an electron from its valence shell.

But here comes an exception due to half filled electronic configuration of nitrogen it would have higher Ionisation potential.
