Anabaena is a filamentous cyanobacteria  present mostly in shallow waters with nitrogen fixing ability.

They are mostly found in symbiotic relationship with plants like mosquito ferns.

These not only fixes nitrogen for plant growth but also protects plants from local wild animals by releasing certain type of neuro toxins.

Another types of plants Anabena azolla also are well known for nitrogen fixation.
