Nitrogen gas is collected over water at 22 degree scentigrade, and the volume
is measured at 284ml, where the total
pressure of the gas
is 764 torr. what volume would
nitrogen occupy if it was dry and pressure was 760 torr?
(The vapour pressure of water at 22 degrees centigrade is 19.8 torr)

Answer:

If N2 gas is bubbled through water at 20^0C , the volume of the gas dissolved in water at this temperature is:(Given that total pressure at 20^oC = 5.75 ...

The mole fraction of nitrogen XN2 = partial pressure of N2/total pressure = 742.5 torr/5.75 × 10^7torr = 1.29 × 10^-5 55.5 moles of water are present ...
