Nitrogen is an essential nutrient for plant growth. But farmers who cultivate pulse crops like green gram, bengal gram etc do not apply nitrogenous fertilizers during cultivation. Why?

they have special structures in their roots called nodules which have rhizobium in it . The plant share a symbiotic relationship with rhizobium which have the ability to fix atm nitrogen into the soil . therefore farmers dont use any nitrogenous fertilezers for such crops . if they use them the soil might become highly acidic making it unsuitable for cultivation
