Nitrogen is an essential nutrients for plant growth .but farmers who cultivate pulses like green gram, bengal gram, black gram etc do not apply nitrogeneous fertilizers during cultivation . why

Plants like Green gram, Bengal gram, etc. are known as leguminous plants because they have Rhizobium on their root in the form of nodules. Which also helps in conversion of atmospheric nitrogen to nitrates or nitrites for absorption by plant. Hence, they can fulfill their need of nitrogen element. Thus no need for additional addition of nitrogenous compound.
