Nitrogen is essential for plant growth but farmers who cultivate pulse crops like black gram bengal gram etc do not need nitrogenous fertilizers during cultivation

because a bacteria called rhizobium lives in the roots of the pulses which converts the atmospheric nitrogen into form of nitrogen which can be used by the plants for growth.
