(1)let the original salary of gobal be'Rs100'

when salary increased by 10%

increased salary of gopal=100+10=Rs110

=>increased salary decreased by10 %

decrease in salary= 110 × 10 / 100

= Rs 11

salary of gopal after the decrease of 10%

= 110 - 11= Rs 99

net decrease in salary = 100 - 99 = Rs 1

net % decrease = 1 / 100 × 100 = 1%

(2) shortcut method :-

% change = a + b + ab/100

let , a = 10 ( increase) , b = - 10 ( decrease)

%change = 10 - 10 + (10 ) (-10) /100

= 10 - 10 - 100/100

=10 - 10 -1

=10 -11

= - 1% (decrease )
