1.T"other side of the way is a colloquial contraction of "the other side of the road". This answer is in reference to the poem "No" by Thomas Hood.

2.No, there is no other expression which is put in inverted commas other than 'No go'. In my opinion the poet has done so because he wanted to emphasize the phrase. "No go" means no travelling on no locomotion, in simple, no socializing.
