No fixed position can be assigned to hydrogen in the periodic table. Why?

Because atom of hydrogen can be changed easily.

the position of hydrogen is not clear because it resembles with both alkali metals and halogens. it gives the positive H+ions like alkali metals and give the hydride ion like halides
