The concept of Directive Principles of State Policy has been implemented from the Irish Public. They have been included in our Constitution for two key reasons as given below:
*To ensure that economic justice is offered to everybody
*To avoid accumulation of wealth by just a few people alone
The Directive Principles of State Policy has been classified into four categories:
*Social and economic principles
*International security and peace related policies and principles
*Gandhian principles
*Miscellaneous
No government can afford to ignore the Directive Principles of State Policy because:
1. Article 37 of the Constitution lays down that it is the duty of the State to apply these principles in making laws. All the executive agencies of the union and states should be guided by these principles. The judiciary also has to keep them in mind while deciding cases.
2. Article 38 lays down that the State shall strive to promote the welfare of the people. Dr. Ambedkar clarified that the word 'strive' meant that the government shall always strive to fulfil the Directives, even under hard and unpropitious circumstances.
