The North Star, also known as Polaris, is known to stay fixed in our sky. Earth's spin causes the sun in the daytime – and the stars at night – to rise in the east and set in the west. But the North Star is a special case. Because it lies almost exactly above Earth's northern axis, it's like the hub of a wheel.
