Mourad could not have bought the horse because they had no money. But the author refused to believe that he could have stolen it because the family was an honest family, and they were well-know for their honesty and had been so for nearly eleven centuries. Regardless of whether they were rich or poor, they were first,a very proud family, followed by being honest. The author says that they were so proud of their reputation for being honest, that they would never dream of stealing from anyone.
