The number of d electrons in Fe^(2+) (atomic number of Fe = 26) is not equal.

The number of d-electrons retained in Fe2+ (At. number of Fe=26) ions is 6 or 4?? 6 d-electrons are retained in Fe2+.

Fe has configuration of 4s2 ,3d6 after losing of 2 electrons it become Fe2+ and have only 3d6 configuration having 4 unpaired electrons and one paired electron .
