it gives two ions.

[Co(NH3)Cl]^+ &Cl^-

the whole complex ions forms only one ion.

When CO(NH3)6Cl2 is dissolved in water it forms 3 ions,

2 Cl- ions 1 [Co(NH3)]+2 ion
