⠀ there are 10 oxides of phosphorus

⠀oxygen have 6 electrons in valence shell and phosphorus have 5 electrons in valence shell

⠀first draw structure of p4o10 .

⠀for drawing structure of p408 remove 2 double bond .

⠀for p4o6 remove 4 double bonded oxygen .

count lone pair from structure.

  • lone pair on p4o10 = 20
  • lone pair on p4o8 = 18
  • lone pair on p406 = 16

P4O6, P4O8, and P4O10 have lone pairs of 16,  20, and 24.

  • Phosphorous trioxide represents by the formula P4O6.
  • P4O8 represents Tetraphosphorus Octaxoide.
  • And Phosphorus Pentoxide is denoted by P4O10.
  • The Phosphorous trioxide(P4O6) molecule, it has 12 P-O bonds, as each P is connected to 3 Oxygen atoms.
  • And P4O6 has 16 lone pairs present in them.
  • When a valance shell electron has a connection with one atom but is not included in the covalent bond is denoted as lone pair.
  • Each phosphorus atom has one lone pair.
  • Oxygen atoms have two lone pairs.
  • So, P4O6 ⇒ 1×4+2×6 = 16.
  • P4O8 ⇒ 1×4+2×8 = 20.
  • P4O10⇒ 1×4+2×10 = 24.
