Sympathizing and empathizing are two human sentiments that help one person to understand another. Unless one possesses one of these emotions one can never understand the depth of pain or happiness felt by another. The post master was one of those unsympathetic persons who never stopped to understand his fellow men and their emotions. As a result he had caused great pain to coachman Ali.

But as fate would have it, his own daughter fell sick and he was unable to get any news. Then he realized Ali's pain and anxiety of not getting the news of his daughter. It was an eye-opener to the post master.

It is very important that we are able to understand our fellowmen. To despise someone without actually understand his circumstances is every wrong. this is the mistake committed by the postmaster, for which he had to suffer remorse. Understanding one's fellow human beings will create a conducive atmosphere for good social life. If human beings understand each other's pain, a lot of violence will disappear from this earth.
