In biology, cell theory is the historic scientific theory, now universally accepted, that living organisms are made up of cells, that they are the basic structural/organizational unit of all organisms, and that all cells come from pre-existing cells. Cells are the basic unit of structure in all organisms and also the basic unit of reproduction.

The three tenets to the cell theory are as described below:

  • All living organisms are composed of one or more cells.
  • The cell is the basic unit of structure and organization in organisms.
  • Cells arise from pre-existing cells.

Answer:

According to the cell theory, living organisms are composed of cells. Organisms consisting of only one cell carry out all functions of life in that cell. Surface area to volume ratio is important in the limitation of cell size...

Some of the objections or drawbacks were slated against the cell theory: 1) Virus are acellular entities or organisms which do not have a cell machinery. ... 2)Schleiden and Schwann did not know the mechanism of cell formation. Schwann believed cells to produce and develop spontaneously just like a crysta
