Hydrogenation occurs for double bonds present in unsaturated plant oil , thus increasing melting point , converting into solid fats ( for high mp fats remain solid at room temperature). Now catalyst is used to decrease the activation energy for this process.

HII......

THERE IS YOUR ANSWER.....

THE HYDROGENATION IS THE PROCESS IN WHICH THE UNSATURATED HYROCARBONS GET CONVERTED INTO SATURATED HYDROCARBON IN THE PRESENCE OF A CATALYST WHICH MAINLY Ni And Pd......

IN THIS PROCESS THE PIE BOND BETWEEN THE CARBON BREAKS DUE TO THE TEMPERATURE AT WHICH THIS REACTION OCCUR OR DUE TO THE CATALYST WHICH ADDED JUST TO FASTER THE RATE OF TRANSFORMATION .......

HOPE ITS HELP YOU.....
