No wonder, one sees shining and multi-coloured bill-boards hung on poles displaying goods advertised. The city walls are found lettered with eye-catching advertisements of products that are manufactured today. There is a spate of magazines and journals which spare pages for latest variety of goods manufactured. Radio and Television are humming with advertisements of new products. In all of this, the only thing that is common is the language used. The companies are ready to spend loads of amount just for the “show off” of their products. They would choose a “catchy phrase”, a song, a video or some famous face to advertise their product. And then the real nightmares begin, you will come across your T.V, radios, newspapers, magazines filled up with these “phrases”. It completely changes our “outlook” towards that brand and product that is manufactured. Advertisements are sometimes so scientifically and intelligently planned that they change the entire psychology of the consumers. A thing may not have an intrinsic value but it must be well advertised. Most of the times, these advertisements effect your psyche so deeply that you end up buying things that you would never want. Just because it has been presented so beautifully. The commodity sold must spell the name of its firm or concern it belongs to. Banks, insurance companies, coaching centres, beauty parlours, physical fitness centres, music and dance schools, all fill the pages of newspapers or the televisions. Automobiles, two-wheelers, electric appliances, fabrics, cosmetics, toilet goods, furniture, watches, shoes, crockery and cutlery, T.V. sets, radio sets, medicines and tonics, all catch the eye. Besides this, advertisements seeking matrimonial alliances, making public notices, of “Lost” and “Found”, selling old cars and houses, etc. find mention in the newspapers. All these advertisements are gilded in words.
