It was one of the hottest summers that had hit the town and the chances of rain were the least. It was forecasted that there won’t be any rains for at least a month. All the streams and water canals, even the smaller one had dried up. Deep cracks could be seen in once green and paddy fields. The inhabitants now relied on the water plants rendered to them by their municipalities but the situation was as such that even they were going to run out of supply very soon. Everyone had started to cut down on their water intake.

There lived a small family comprising of a husband, wife and their two little kids.

On one particular day, the lady was busy cooking lunch for the family. This term of water scarcity had almost made her believe that the summers were going to last forever. She had once shouted and slapped at her younger son who had spilled a glass of water by mistake.

While she was preparing lunch, she had a glimpse of the little one slowly hunching and toddling his way somewhere. Initially, she didn’t pay any heed. The little one repeated whatever he did a couple more times. The mother now decided to follow the young one out of curiosity. She followed him not making him realize that he was being followed.
The house had a backyard that also had a neighboring farm which housed several goats, cows, and hen. The kid sensing that he was being followed turned back only to find nobody. Anyways, he kept a slow and steady pace. His mother hid behind a wall at a short distance. What she saw next, brought tears to happiness in her eyes.
On the border of their backyard and the neighboring farm, there sat a small calf that was probably thirsty. The kid had made a small cup out of his hand and there was water in it and he was indeed trying to feed water to the calf. After the calf was done, the kid caressed the calf and jumped up to get some more. Again, not making him realize, the mom let him do what he was doing. He filled the makeshift cup slowly and steadily with drops of water, making sure that no water was spilled. Just when he turned around, he saw his mom standing. Scared this time, he spilled water on the floor. He hurriedly said that he did not intend to waste water.

Mom hugged her little munchkin and told him that she saw what he was doing and indeed gave him a bowl full of water, two slices of bread and a chapatti and told him that she was proud of him. Whilst they were making way to the calf, it started raining. She then thought that probably god is happy with her little one’s deed and showering rain in the form of tears of happiness.
