The oxides of non-metals are acidic. If a non-metal oxide dissolves in water, it will form an acid. The non-metal oxides can be neutralized with a base to form a salt and water

When non metallic oxide is dissolved in water the solution formed has high concentration of Hydroxide ions (OH ions) .
