NaCl shows Vacancy or Schottky defect.

Crystal defects in crystalline solids are very common. Similar to non existence of an ideal human existence of an ideal crystal is difficult.

A stoichiometric defect is a defect which does not affect the molecular formula of a compound.

Generally it is of two types depending upon the difference in the size of the cation and anion

If the cationic and anionic sizes are not much apart it will exhibit schottky or vacancy defect in which a cation and an anion leave their lattice point.

If cationic size is too small crystal shows frenkel or interstitial defect in which the cation migrates to an interstitial position.

InNaCl the cationic size (i.e of Na+)is not very small so as to occupy interstitial.position between Cl-.

Hence it shows vacancy defect.
