Above table represents the distribution of population between rural and urban areas .

In the following table some states are given with rural and urban population which expressed in millions .

The first state is Maharashtra . In Maharashtra 560 millions population belongs to Rural areas and 410 millions population belongs to urban areas. The next state is Gujarat. In Gujarat 320 millions population belongs to rural areas and 190 millions population belongs to urban areas. The third state is Madhya Pradesh. In Madhya Pradesh 440 million population belongs to rural areas and 160 millions population belongs to Urban areas .The fourth state is Chhattisgargh . In Chhattishgargh 170 millions population belongs to Rural areas and 40 millions population belongs to urban areas. The fifth state is Andrapradesh. In Andra Pradesh 550 millions population belongs to rural areas and 210 millions population belongs to Urban areas. The sixth state is Karnataka. In karnataka 350 millions population belongs to rural areas and 180 millions belongs to urban areas.

It is clear from the above data that most of the population belongs to rural areas as compared to Urban areas. ..It means most of the population lives in rural areas.
