GIVEN

2m in front of a spotlight at point A. she is 1.6m tall and is facing the wall of a building which is 10.5m away from her.

TO FIND

How tall is her shadow on the wall of the building?

SOLUTION

The above problem can be simply solved as follows;

Distance between Nora and spotlight = 2m

Height of Nora = 1.6m

Distance between wall and Nora = 10.5m

Let the height of the shadow = x m

Shadow will be proportional to the height of Nora

Therefore,

2/1.6 = 10.5/x

2x = 10.5 × 1.6 = 16.8

x = 16.8/2 = 8.4 m

Hence, The answer is 8.4 m
