Normality = Molarity /valency factor

For H3PO4 valency factor is 3 because it can give 3 H⁺ IONS.

∴Normality = 0.5/3

                    = 0.16

Given:

Molarity of the H_{3}PO_{4} solution = 0.5

To find:

Normality = ?

Formula to be used:

Normality = Molarity × No. of replaceable hydrogen ions

Calculation:

The given compound  H_{3}PO_{4} has 3 replaceable hydrogen ions.

Molarity is already given.

Now substitute the values in the following formula

Normality = Molarity × No. of replaceable hydrogen ions

Normality = 0.5 × 3

Normality = 1.5

Final answer:

Normality of 0.5 M H_{3}PO_{4}  solution is found as 1.5 N.
