Generally, in a nonpregnant female, the ovarian hormones are secreted in response to the gonadotrophin cells.

• Gonadotrophin cells are controlled by the pituitary gland. Gonadotropin cells secrete FSH and LH hormones.

• FSH ( Follicle-stimulating hormone) stimulates the growth and maturation of immature oocytes into follicles before ovulation.

• LH( Luteinising hormone) triggers the ovulation process.

• In none pregnant women, estrogen and progesterone are the two steroid hormones secreted by the ovaries.

• These two hormones help in the development of secondary sexual hormones in females.
