Answer:

This process is known as . This is, in my opinion, one of the most important analytical skills that the average person should master. If only because it is so useful in our everyday lives.

There are a few ways that you can do this, but I prefer to let the units do the work for me..

We start with 72beats1min . We want N(number)beats1hour . We'll need a conversion factor: i.e. there are 60 mins in 1 hour. So,

72beats1min∗60min1hour=4,320beats1hour ; Note: the minute units cancel because there is an unspoken (1) in front of each ( 11=1 ). But how do we know how to set up the conversion factor? It easily could have been 1hour60mins right? If we did that, the units would be beats∗hourmin2 .. that's just crazy..

As for how many beats per day.. the conversion factor is: 24hours1day . 4,320beats1hour∗24hours1day=103,680beats1day

In a year.. the conversion factor is 365daysyear .

103,680beats1day∗365days1year=37,843,200beats1year

If you assume a median life expectancy of 65 years: that's 37,843,200beats1year∗65years1lifetime=2,459,808,000beats1lifetime ..

So, that's all of the beats you might get. About 2.5 billion.. Use them wisely;)

**Note that the heart rate is dynamic, and really should be estimated from a weighted average over a long period of time. Thus these numbers aren't very accurate..
