The “North Pole” and “South Pole” in a permanent magnet form a dipole. Dipole is a fancy term for an object with two poles, each with equal and opposite opposite “charge” (although there is no magnetic charge). There is an electric analog, the electric dipole that has two equal and opposite charges separated by a small distance.
