The winter or northeast monsoon gives the state 48% of its annual rainfall. While the southwest monsoon provides India around 75% of the rainfall it receives, the northeastern monsoon brings substantial rainfall to Tamil Nadu, south-interior Karnataka, coastal Andhra Pradesh, Rayalaseema, Puducherry and Kerala.
