The following are the reasons why the Northern plans are important for the economy of India:

1. Much fertile land: the deposits of the northern lowlands make the region very productive. Therefore, the productive soil of the region along with favorable climatic situations makes agriculture a fruitful occupation of the local people.

2. Favorable flatland: a large number of people take the service of railways as they use to sell their surplus production in various markets thus railways become a necessity. On the other hand, the government is able to accumulate more revenue from railways.

Answer:

The alluvial deposits in the northern plains make the land very fertile. ... Hence the northern plains are called the 'granaries of the country'. Since agriculture is the backbone of the country and the northern plains contribute a major portion of yields, they are very important for the growth of the Indian economy
