An easy way to imagine what is going to happen is a combination of Lentz’s Law and The Right Hand Rule.
Because of Lentz’s Law the coil will produce a magnetic north pole to repel the incoming north pole, so using The Right Hand Rule you can predict what current you need to get that pole.
If the coil is oriented so the incoming pole is pointing upwards approaching from below then the current will be running clock wise as seen from above, and opposite if the pole is coming from above.
