The indigo cultivators had to work very hard and they sometimes had to skip their food in order to cultivate indigo.some cultivators who refused to work for the British and the people who revolted against the British were beaten badly,some were given harsh punishments and some were killed brutally.by shifting base from bengal to bihar further worsened the conditions of the indigo cultivators.
