Notches are carved on the tyres because notches on the tyres because it makes the surface of the tyres rough.

This makes the tyres rough and hence induces friction.

So whenever the brakes are applied to the car it will decelerate faster due to friction and the car will be able to come to rest within a short time.

Therefore notches are made on tyres.
