Abraham Lincoln. the sateenth President of United States of America writes a letter to his
son's (Robert Todd) teacher when he started going to school, requesting the teacher to treat
him gently Uncoln calls this as a strange and new adventure which is going to teach Robert
many things in life.Requesting the teacher to hold him by his hand and make him realize that
for every enemy, there is a friend and that he should be able to judge who is true and who is
not. Everyone around him is not a bad person but many are dedicated too He also tells the
teacher to teach him how to gracefully lose and enjoy winning when he does He wants his
teacher to teach him to be gentle with people, steer him away from envy, to laugh when he is
sad to scoff at cynics that there is no shame in tears and to ponder over the extreme mystery
of birds in the sky. Developing faith in his own ideas even if everyone tells him that they are
wrong is something that he wants his teacher to teach him. The teacher is requested to teach
his son the patience to listen to others to be brave, to have sublime faith in God .not to
follow the cnwd but to filter all that he hears and take only the good that comes through

belleves his son to be a nice boy who desenes all these things so that he is able to face the
harsh realities and challenges of life.

b) because the beginning of the school is very much important time of a child's growth. They learn everything from an early age and remember it till adulthood. so, its important for EVERY child to be treated gently and in care for them to grow into a better person.
c) 'steer away from envy' probably means that he wants the teacher to teach Robert how to not get on the path of jealousy as it can ruin anyone. and to be happy and content in what he has.
d) he asked the teacher to hold Robert by his hand so that the teacher could help Robert in the times when he fails, when he is down and help him back up, to remind him that there is someone who is looking out for him. it is actually a very important thing to be done to a child.
