You are provided with some vegetables to cook. You generally add salt to the vegetables during the cooking process.

a) What will you observe after adding salt in vegetable?

Ans: We will observe after adding salt, the vegetable starts releasing water.

b) Give reason for your observation and discuss the phenomenon.

Ans: It is due to osmosis where liquid moves from the salt present in lower concentration to the salt present in higher concentration. Addition of salt to vegetables while cooking increases the salt concentration outside the  vegetables.
