Note : In all hydraulic machines, effort is less
than load while the distance moved by effort is more
than the distance moved by load such that the product
of effort and the distance moved by effort is equal to
the product of load and the distance moved by load
(in ideal situation when there is no energy loss). i.e.,
work done by effort = work done by load.
Thus, mechanical advantage (M.A.)=
Load/effort>1
and velocity ratio=
distance moved by effort/distance moved by load>1
Hence a hydraulic machine acts like a force multiplier
