The study of chemistry examines the make-up, structure, and characteristics of matter as well as the alterations that take place as a result of chemical processes. Due to its function in bridging the gap between the physical sciences and the biological sciences and applied sciences, chemistry is sometimes referred to as the "core science."

Some important Notes in chapter one:

Matter

Any object with mass and space-occupying volume is considered a substance and is referred to as matter.

In general, matter is divided into three phases:

  • Solids are substances that have a distinct shape, keep their volume according to that shape, and have the least amount of freedom of movement. For example, sugar, iron, gold, timber, and so on.
  • A liquid is a material that has the overall form of a vessel with a set volume. Liquids, too, have the ability to flow or be poured. Water, milk, oil, mercury, alcohol, etc. are a few examples.
  • Gases are things that don't have a defined volume or shape. Gases often entirely fill the container in which they are stored. For example, hydrogen and oxygen.

Molecules

The smallest component of a material that possesses both its physical and chemical characteristics Any number of atoms make up a molecule.

Reactions in Chemistry

a procedure that entails reorganising a substance's molecular or ionic structure, as opposed to changing its physical shape or undergoing a nuclear reaction.

Stoichiometry

Stoichiometry is the study of chemical processes and the calculations that go along with them. The stoichiometric coefficient denotes the coefficient employed to balance the reaction.
